Vintage Tractors & Steam

VINTAGE AND STEAM EXHIBITS ARE ALWAYS POPULAR AT USK SHOW.

Memories of Steam Corner 2009

Steam Launch Bess was virtually continuously surrounded by interested people, particularly while she was in steam. Meanwhile, the judges were hard at work assessing the model steam tractors for the Haining Trophy, awarded for the first time in 2009.

The Haining Trophy was awarded to Peter Burton for his working traction engine and Baler. It is hoped that this trophy will help to encourage exhibitors to present exhibits "in steam", since this is a heavily weighted factor in the judging.

The new location for the boating pond resulted in an almost continuous demand for the radio-controlled electric boats throughout the day.

The warm, sunny weather encouraged a relaxed atmosphere, with a rare opportunity to see the model engines at close range, and talk to the people who built them.

As usual, the model railway attracted an almost continuous queue of customers. Members of the Newport Model Engineering Society laboured cheerfully all day, loading both children and their parents onto what was, for many, their first experience of working steam.

The model Marquee attracted a total of 46 exhibitors, including a wide range of hot air engines, commercial steam toys and model fairground rides, as well as an excellent line-up of exhibition-standard steam engineering.
